Hydroponic Tower Farming in the Maldives

2025-03-19

The client is from the Maldives and although tourism dominates, agriculture is still one of the main pillars of economic development in the Maldives, however farming requires a lot of land. On the contrary, vertical hydroponic towers are the best solution for farming in areas where arable land is in short supply and are ideally suited to an island nation like the Maldives. The client chose hydroponic farming, an innovative agricultural technology, to meet the challenge of shortage of fresh vegetables.

The client purchased the 6P10 Hydroponic Vertical Tower System, these vertical farming systems use nutrient-rich water instead of soil and are ideally suited to the limited arable land and sandy terrain of the Maldives. 10- level high vertical hydroponic towers with 6 growing holes per level are set up in sunny outdoor areas, utilizing the sunlight and the tower's irrigation system to ensure optimal vegetable growth. Hydroponic tower growing saves up to 90% of the water used in agricultural irrigation and is more environmentally friendly than traditional farming. The controlled growing environment also allows hydroponic towers to grow year-round. Free from pests and land contamination, the vegetables are picked fresh daily to ensure maximum nutritional value and optimal flavor.

The client sells these fresh, locally grown vegetables to resorts, local markets and residents, reducing reliance on imported produce.
