Our client in Malaysia is currently growing hydroponically and approached our team to inquire about the growing medium. Growing sponges and rockwool are commonly used for hydroponic growing, but given that the client is growing commercially, our team preferred rockwool as a medium.
From a hydroponic farming point of view, rockwool has better water retention properties and is able to store more water, which reduces the risk of drying out and makes it more suitable for tropical countries like Malaysia and areas with higher temperatures. At the same time the fiber structure of rockwool provides good air permeability, which is more helpful for hydroponic crops to breathe according. Rockwool is also suitable for the entire hydroponic growing cycle, especially for medium to large fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers.
In final, the customer decided to purchase 10 rockwools for planting tests.
